DR300 Drone-Retriever
- A very simple “Passive Drone-Retriever Device” for your “sub-250” drone that only weight 7.4 grams.
- The design shown is attached to a DJI Mini drone.
- The unit can be attached to the top or bottom of ANY small drone with a takeoff weight less than 300 g.
- Note:
- Obstacle avoidance system, most likely, will need to be turned off.
- Mounting to the bottom of the drone will facilitate hand launch and retrieval.

- Since DJI has basically captured the SUB 250 gram drone market.
- We estimate that most pilots begin flying with the standard battery and then upgrade to the longer flight time PLUS battery.
- We decided to produce the DR300 which will lift 300 grams such that it covers the additional weight of the PLUS battery.
- For those of you who only fly the standard battery you can easily modify the DR300 [300g] into a DR250 [250g].
- Procure a serrated bread knife and cut off 1.0 inch [25mm] of the foam material. You can also use a sharp utility knife, but for the cleanest cut the serrated edge works best.
- This will also reduce your weight from 7.4 to 6.3 grams.

History
- Over the past several years drone pilots have asked if we could produce a water rescue device for SUB-250 GRAM Drones.
- This design does that in the simplest way while only adding 7.4 grams weight to the drone.
- After directly providing DIY instructions, customers asked for a complete product.
- This is that product option.
DR300 BCN with recovery Beacon
- The beacon unit is a Micro USB rechargeable device.
- It is NOT a water activated device.
- It is manually turned on and remains on until manually turned off.
- It is activated by a single push button located on the top surface.
- Long press the button to turn on/off.
- Single press to change mode.
- Operator can select various colors (White - Red - Green - Blue -Yellow - Purple - Sky Blue]. Image shows Yellow color.
- 31 modes: quickly flash - seven-color slow flash - seven color SOS mode - cycle slowly flash - remain on continuously - alternate between various colors - etc.
- Longest battery life with slow flash
- The beacon is attached with same mounting zip tie used to attach the foam float.
- Additionally when not flying with the float the beacon can be attached to the drone with the zip tie to provide a recovery aid.
- The Beacon adds 5 grams to the drone take off weight.
- It operates for 4+ hours on a single charge however this will vary with mode selected.
- Recharge time is less than 20 min.
- Manufacturer claims 3 mile visibility which meets FAA night time collision avoidance lighting requirement.
